Freedom in the Air
Founder
October 2007 September 2008
Freedom in the Air is a not-for-profit organisation in alliance with Cranfield Flight Training and TA aviation based at Cranfield Airport. We offer pilot training for people with disabilities in two different modified aeroplanes.
I have developed the website as the primary outreach tool, organized Freedom Wings events for disabled children and young carers, promoted the activity in print media, radio and TV. The flying training is now set up. We have created links with The Douglas Bader Foundation and organised three events for Aviation Without Borders to introduce children to aviation.
Working with Cranfield College of Aeronautical Engineering, we have been designing and developing a set of hand controls for pilots with lower limb disabilities.
Freedom in the Air is supported by high-profile personalities from the world of aviation, sport, music and the media including a First Officer British Airways, a Flight Lieutenant from the RAF, Harry Waters son of and Keyboard player in the Roger Waters band of Pink Floyd.
