Poptones Records
Record Label Manager
January 2004 to December 2005
Following my work at Creation Management, I became record label manager for Poptones Records. Exciting up-and-coming acts such as The Paddingtons, The Others, King Biscuit Time, The Hives and The D4 brought new challenges. As well as running the day-to-day administration of the company I arranged artists contracts, recording sessions, release budgets, UK and international tours, UK & international release activities, press - sponsorship, producing music videos, creating an art department, photo shoot with high profile photographers, producing royalty statements and accounting, label and bands websites marketing and even undertaking a Department of Trade (AIM Music) Mission to Beijing and Shanghai, gave me the knowledge and experience I draw on today. I organized major events for both Creation and Poptones, in particular the Poptones Stage at Glastonbury 2005.
Poptones had a joint venture with Mercury Records, a Universal company. Bands that had album deal releases went through Poptones / Mercury. I worked closely with product managers, marketing managers, international managers to drive and deliver album campaigns. Working with Alan McGee, I developed the Poptones club night called Rock N Roll Promz in Paris, Milan and Rome. We organised events with Poptones bands for Dior in Paris during their fashion shows during 2004 and toured the up and can coming bands in Italy and Japan.
