Rotary International

Ambassador for the Polio Eradication campaign

2007 – ongoing

After learning about the commitment of Rotary International – a non-profit humanitarian service organization that has made polio eradication its top priority - I became inspired and have worked to help Rotary’s current campaign to eradicate the disease in India and worldwide. Rotary International works with UNICEF and WHO.  It is comprised of 1.2 million business and professional leaders in nearly 170 countries. I have traveled to India several times during the past few years and helped to vaccinate some 100 million children in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. My role is to help raise awareness for the campaign with people in India and the wider international community.

I have worked with numerous TV & Radio media channels in India, USA and the UK to raise awareness on the issue. I was a keynote speaker at the UK And Ireland Rotary conference in April 2008, in Blackpool, speaking to 4,000 people ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFcyPtcVTik ). As part of the polio eradication effort, I have just finished taking a series of photos of Kolkata and producing the “Full Circle” photographic exhibition and a documentary for Al Jazeera English with Rageh Omar. The exhibition will be held at the Menier Chocolate factory from October 13th – October 19th 2008 and will then go on a tour. The documentary film will be broadcast during October 2008 to coincide with the exhibition.
